01 Background

The Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000 created the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), inaugurated on 29 September 2000. It was the very first executive bill of the Obasanjo administration and Nigeria's first modern anti-corruption statute, empowering the ICPC to investigate and prosecute corruption and to examine the systems of public bodies for corruption-prone practices.
