01 Background

The Nigerian Correctional Service Act 2019 repealed the Prisons Act and reorganised the service into a Custodial Service and a Non-Custodial Service. It introduces community service, parole and other non-custodial measures, emphasises rehabilitation and reintegration, and addresses awaiting-trial congestion.
